Lightwater Voluntary Improvement Scheme

LVIS is a group of volunteers who meet regularly to carry out work in public areas of the village with the aim of improving its appearance and making it a more pleasant place to live.

Our work varies through the year – typically in autumn and spring we plant fresh bedding plants in the village square, during winter we clear footpaths and generally tidy up, and in late summer we need to water the raised beds and plant bulbs for the following spring.

Currently we have 15 volunteers and we welcome new ones – there is always work to do!.

The Square, Lightwater

Our work in The Square is being hindered by the problem with the large tree by the corner of the road. It’s roots are causing the paving blocks to rise and the resulting uneven surface has become dangerous.

The whole situation has been compounded by confusion over ownership of the land on which the tree stands and this is delaying remedial works.

We are in constant communication with the legal department and the Property Division of the Co-op, who, in theory, own The Square, and we are hopeful that work will restart by mid January, 2026. Watch Facebook for any updates.
